Happy Smackah Announces Partnership with Colorado Cancer Foundation to Support Boulder County Communities

Partnership will increase funding and support to those facing health adversity

BOULDER COUNTY, MAY 1, 2022 – Happy Smackah, a non-profit foundation operating in Boulder County, Colorado and sponsor of the annual Happy Smackah 5k Fun Run / Walk, announces a collaborative partnership with the Colorado Cancer Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to aiding Colorado-based cancer patients and families.

“We are grateful  to partner with Colorado Cancer Foundation to drive awareness and increase support for cancer patients throughout our region,” said Tom Bartel, spokesperson  at Happy Smackah.  The Colorado Cancer Foundation is dedicated to supporting Colorado-based cancer patients, which  aligns directly with Happy Smackah’s mission to provide community events that help people support and inspire each other.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Happy Smackah to shine a light on their efforts helping those battling cancer and other challenges” said Pietro Simonetti , President  at Colorado Cancer Foundation. “Happy Smackah’s focused giving approach is a wonderful complement to the broad impact and influence that our organization provides. This partnership will allow both Happy Smackah and Colorado Cancer Foundation communities more opportunities to support awareness and their communities in need.”

Support Happy Smackah

Register for the 2022 Happy Smackah 5k Fun Run / Walk event in support of Halle Glasser, a student athlete at Skyline High School in Longmont.  Halle was diagnosed in November with poorly differentiated large cell neuroendocrine thymic carcinoma.

Join event sponsors Stapp Interstate Toyota and Sticker Giant, among others sponsors, to underwrite the  Happy Smackah 5k Fun Run/Walk and extend the financial impact of the event.

Happy Smackah History

The Happy Smackah originated in 2011 when Dan Cribby, a local educator, became critically ill and the local community banded together to hold fundraisers, including a 5k race.  Dan survived his illness and together with the organizing committee determined to “pay it forward” and continue the event annually as a way to benefit members of the St. Vrain community facing medical hardship.

Through a community-driven nomination process, the Happy Smackah identifies an individual community member each year as the sole beneficiary for the 5k Fun Run / Walk.

Seven of the 11 Happy Smackah beneficiaries have been challenged by cancer. According to the CDC, each year in the United States, more than 1.6 million people are diagnosed with cancer, and nearly 600,000 die from it, making it the second leading cause of death. The cost of cancer care continues to rise and is expected to reach almost $174 billion by 2020.

The Colorado Cancer Foundation sponsors the annual Eldorado Run for the Cure, a family friendly four-mile run beginning and ending at Eldorado Canyon State Park, in South Boulder. Through this event and other fundraising they offer financial assistance to those in need, and facilitate oncology research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
